Buy the same kind of lighting for your QT as you have over your DT. For good acclimation of new corals. That way you are not turning the lights down on your thriving tank.

When setting up a tank try and place it in an area of your room that is away from a window. If you need to place it near a window, use tint on the window to reduce Heat.

Three important tips to remember when dealing with nuisance algae:

    1) Don't panic- algae is not the enemy. It is, after all, keeping the water clean while you find the imbalance between nutrient import and export, which is a major benefit to your pets (and your sanity).

    2) Algaecides kill algae. Period. They do not correct the underlying issue that caused the outbreak. It's far better to fix the problem rather than fighting the symptom.

    3) Once you've had a Nitrate and/or Phosphate problem, it may take some time for all of it to leach back out of your rocks and sand. Patience, and vigilance with routine maintenance, will be the keys to long-term success.

In addition to placement away from a window, be cognoscente of AC vents (registers). Direct AC vent blowing will result in dust and other micro garbage to be in your tanks.

I don't know if its already been said, but buy test kits, spend the money for something other than API. API is good for fresh but I feel anything other than API should be used for Marine.
