Three things I've learned from aquariums, both fresh and saltwater:

    1) Fish love live food; if it's live and fits in his mouth, it's food.

    2) A fish doesn't need to be a predator to eat something live that fits in his mouth.

    3) "Peaceful toward tankmates" only applies to tankmates that do not fit in his mouth.

I love all the replies we had... here is my piece of advice... there is always alternatives to common used filtration methods.. I just installed an algae scrubber and took my GFO offline... after battling the increase in algae at first my tank is now algae free without the need for any GFO... it has made my maintenance schedule a lot easier :)

Reefing is full of ups and downs. For example, picking up frags when they fall down or picking up crabs/snails when they fall on their backs. :D

When returning from a business trip or anything of the sort. Kiss your wife before checking on your aquarium.
The easier the chores of maintaining your aquarium are the more often you will do them. K.I.S.S

Always buy something the first time you introduce yourself to a new LFS owner, that way the associate you with a buying respectful customer.

Do maintenance based off the health of your aquarium's inhabitants.
Minimum tank size isn't always a good tank size.

Not one system is exactly the same. Find your happy medium and build on that.
