Read, Read, Read and then apply your own brain and observations. The hardest part of this hobby is that there are more opinions and solutions to problems than what can be published in a library. However, they are all very valuable. When I search and read the hundreds of forum post of particular issue or how to do something I try to learn a little from each and in many cases you case see patterns and you can apply to your observations in your own tank since every tank is a little different. In the end observe, learn and do not over complicate things.

It's always better to have an oversized skimmer to keep up with feedings.

It's always a good idea to have a battery powered air pump to keep the tank oxygenated in the event of a power outage.

Consistency is key, so pick a husbandry schedule that you can keep without fail and follow it. Elaborate maintenance does no good if it doesn't happen, so keep it simple and keep on it.
