This show treats the fish as just another decoration beside a pay phone or flat screen. I am not interested in increasing hobby interest if those interested are not concerned with the welfare of the animals.

Unfortunately I have Seen commercials aired on other channels. My girlfriend frequently watches some show called yes to the dress and they advertise tanked on there.

Douchedom at it's finest. Joey and Tony Ravioli making a few bucks on cheesy FOWLR's with little concern for the inhabitants.

They are targeting the reality TV crowd. For the true aquarists this website has a some decent educational eye candy.

Totally agree with Whisky there. I was at a very respected fish store today and talked to the owner about it and we both agreed its PRETTY BAD. I mean those two dorks, the show revolves around are charging clients thousands of dollars to make the worst FOWLR I have ever seen. I've seen a lot of aquariums, but phone booths, cars, TVs in aquariums..... really? I bet all those beautiful fish really love swimming by TV's blaring all day long in that aquarium. Also do they cycle those tanks? I mean they fill them with a hose, so we have no idea how purified this water is, mix salt, and dump fish in. My fiancee and I watched it and were pretty much laughing how horribly scripted it is and how these guys act. I think they should stick with aquarium construction. Leave the setup and livestock addition to someone else. Maybe someone who cares more for the animals and not the money and fame. Thats my two cents and lets also thank Animal Planet for adding another horrible show to their lineup. I mean WTH happened to that channel, its all about reality TV, escaping death from animals, and now this show.....

I wonder what kind of algae problem the light from the tv's will cause and what they have in place to combat that? I would also like to know how they are going to keep that 1000 gallon mob themed aquarium from having a huge diatom bloom because they just used straight tap water? I'm sure they have something they do, because these Casinos would not pay them top dollar if the aquarium doesn't look amazing at all times.

I haven't read all of this thread, but it seems like there is a lot of negative to be said. I have watched both shows, and I don't agree with everything they do. I know that we are here to better the hobby and make successful aquariums that flourish, but there has to be something positive about this show, doesn't there?

I also think that we all realize that there will be a lot of newbies out there that are looking for a good information source and they will more then likely just jump into the hobby with the help of their LFS that just wants to make a dollar or two as well. I know I will do my part to help set people on the right path when they say "Well that is how they did it on Tanked".

They are the largest aquarium builders in the world. They sell to people who know much better than "expected losses"... I would be willing to bet any amount of money that they pre cure and cycle all the crushed coral (hence the reason you don't see any dust in the water after fill) and that gives a very strong bacteria base (probably also part of the reason they used crushed coral).

The primary concern is time, a vegas casino isn't going to have a tank sitting around cycling for months. So they precycle and use products like this. That's why Dr. Tim's aquatics has such a lucratic business. He makes products for these exact situations.

The formations they make can easily be made with materials that are colonized by bacteria in the same fashion as live rock, these could also be placed in mature tanks until installation further lowering cycle issues.

I think they should have an episode or atleast part of an episode to address this. And it should have been in the first episode.

But the show is about the custom builds and design more than the aquarium.

Edit: after looking at there filtration choices it becomes even more clear. They use wet dry trickle filters with pre cycled media.

    Well said grim.

I definitely think the two dudes that host the show are SUPER corny, but its not all that bad. I thought it was pretty cool actually. If their the biggest tank builders in the world, I'm sure they have their system down by now when it comes to adding their fish. Yes all we see is the water and fish going in, but I'm sure theres MUCH more that didn't make the cutting room floor. The fact is, acclimation, cycling, and the rest of the setup doesn't make entertaining television. Hell, I love tanks, but I don't want to watch someone cycle their tank on TV lol. The show is trying to make the show interesting to ALL people, not just hobbyist's. I really don't think there will be a GIANT influx of people running to LFS's buying a tank and putting their fish in the same day either. Will there be a few? Sure. But it's not like it doesn't happen prior to the show airing.
