    8-10 gallons enough? It's a 72 G + 15 sump - 80lbs rock / 80lbs sand

A 10% water change with a Nitrate reading of 20 would take them to 18.

Or, if you have nothing else in the tank... you could use media that absorb the nitrate... depends how much water you would need to replace and the relative cost.

What kind of media are you referring to?

Only thing else besides the rock and sand is the filter sock which I was giong to swap out today...

Can I just add a bag of chemi pure elite in my filter sock which my overflow drains right into?

The only thing you might worry about is it getting beaten into a powder. There are a host of media for almost everything you can think of. The relative success is dependent on the media. If you have a sump, you can put some refugium algae in a chamber (lighted of course) and it will work to pull nutrients from the water. Then you periodically trim that algae.

Chemi-pure Elite and Purigen combo is used by some of the most successful reef keepers I know.

I still think you will be %100 fine if you just follow the basic steps I laid down earlier

Keep us posted. Just make sure you have hermits and snails in there , eating and thriving, for at least a week or two before adding any fish or coral!!

Good luck mate!! I know that cycling can be a real pain in the ass, but patience will pay off!

    Any pictures of your tank?
