I don't think that would be near enough blue. I'm thinking 18 royal blue, 12 cool white, 6 warm white, 12 uv. But honestly I would run more white than only 18 whites on a 4 foot tank. Are you dead set on 12 uvs?

Maybe you know more about this, but I read using anything under 405nm produces harmful uv radiation. that we should use 410nm and above. Have you read or heard differently?

great looking setup so far insanepain. i like the fact you used an even ratio.

I used iPhone 3G and loved it used the hell out of it, moved to MT, where AT&T is useless, so I got the first gen DROID, I like it, but I dont use it as much as iPhone 3G for some reason.

Just so you know, blue spectrum wise, CW and RB overlap very much in spite of the look of them. I think I have enough blue. I really wish CREE made decent 505nm (cyan/aqua) because thats what it peeks in real sunlight somewhat.

    RB 12
    CW 12 spectrum simulation:

    Now,
    RB 12
    CW 12
    WW 12
    UV (395-405) 6
    UV (420) 6 spectrum simulation

I might mix NW instead of all WW (like 8 WW and 4 NW)

But no, Im not that dead set about the UVs. Heck, Im not 100% set on anything..

As long as you dont look at the UV LED directly and straight, 3 watt LEDs are not harmful enough, as far as I know. I have seen enough tanks to believe that UV especially 420nm is VERY effective on shallow SPS growth and coloring.

So I got the light rigged up to see what it looked like over the tank and WOW. I knew going LED was going to be awesome, but I really had no idea it was going to look this good. The shimmer is INCREDIBLE and the colors are amazing. My clowns are so vivid now, the whole tank looks 10000000% better. Excuse the MacGyver setup I've got going on. The light isnt finished yet but I just had to get it above the tank lol. The light is actually "warmer" than I thought it was going to be once I got it over the tank, its almost perfect actually. The tank has been without carbon or filter socks for over a month and there is a cyno bloom and I just dusted some rocks off so the water is cloudy in the pics. There is a SMALL shadow from the center brace but its hardly noticeable in person, I dont know why it showed up so bad in the pic. Anyways, better pics to come later.

    ZOMG, looks AWESOMELY AMAZING!
You said you shouldve gone with WW? What do you think now? Little too blue? want more red? Whats your impression?? Did you tweak the drivers? How many mA are you running?

Well Im not excited or anything... :)

LMAO, I was embarrased to put up this pic with cloudy water and algae everywhere!

After getting it on the tank, I'm happy with the NW. Definitely not too blue for me, it's almost perfect really. Yes I set the drivers.

    12 RB's = 1000mA
    12 CW's = 1500mA
    6 RB & 6 NW = 1000mA

I was kinda surprised I was able to get the CW's up to their max driver current. The meanwells say they only go to 1.3 amps but I was able to get 1.5 on the CW's according to my meter. Granted its a cheap ass meter so maybe its a bit off, I dont really know. As for my impression? %#@*&$!@&$%@# its AWESOME!

Haha sorry I was just little too happy to see the light up and running.

Thanks for the first impression. I will take it under serious consideration which LEDs to go with...

When I upgraded the light from T5 to LED on my old 29g, the clowns were freaking out because of the shimmer effect. Wouldnt come out from hiding. In a week, they got over it. LOL

How high are you gonna hang it?

The shimmer is CRAZY! My girlfriend has a halide and this thing blows it away for shimmer. It's about around 11.5 inches right now but I'm going to hang it at 14 inches. It should fill in nicely I think.
