Has anyone thought of using these light strips from homedepot? If so does it do the trick?

They are only $39 so I'm thinking of buying a couple and testing them out.

Cheap strip lights tend to not be very aquarium-friendly, especially with SW tanks; you may need a glass cover to help prevent corrosion.

They also will be lacking quality reflectors, one of the main features that separate the best from the rest. Without them, I wouldn't invest in high-end reef bulbs or attempt anything that requires high lighting.

Yeah, after looking at them for awhile I saw that they weren't going to be good for what I want them for, I was just exploring some DIY options for lighting. Thank you for your input!

Try Hellolights.com for DIY lighting. They have very good parts. I am not convinced on the TruValue lights or whatever they call their brand bulbs.
