I would still go with the 6 bulb. You aren't going to have very much luck with stonies and the 4 bulb fixture. Maybe some monti's and birdsnest

I want to daniel but the 6 buld is 15 inch and the tanks only 12 inch so isnt that a waste of extra bulbs

    I don't think you will be happy with the 4 54 watts T5 HO's..
I have this setup and with 260 watts of PC.. On a custom 60 Gal..
The color isn't showing up right on some corals..
I know my bulbs arn't the best brand, etc..
No matter what you end up with, check the bulbs.. Not to drop another one on you.... BUT ..
I was at a friends, he had a 125 gal tank with VHO's on it.. beautiful..
And had a clam that must have been a foot long, and beautiful colors..
I'm not sure what VHO's are..??
I also need to upgrade in the near future..

    Good Luck, Larry

Halides shimmer effect is awesome. If you get the T5's get ATI bulbs they have the most Par.. UVL and Geisemann are also good. I've had UVLs, and love ATI better. Try for the 6 bulb for more bulb options.. get a fiji purple bulb!! yea! Reefgeek.com has the best T5 bulb selection.

You'll be fine with a 4 bulb fixture. As long as it has individual reflectors on it. I've seen PAR meter results after results and PLENTY of realy world experience to know that 4 bulbs fixture on a 55 is great for a mixed reef. In fact I'd say that this light tank combination is a mtch made in heaven. SPS on top of course. A4 bulb TEK type light has a PAR value similar to dual 175 metal halides. I have even seen some of the more expensive fixtures put out a considerable amt MORE light than dual 250w lights. Don't wast your money on a 6 bulb fixture, unless you plan on upgrading to a 90 gallon or a taller tank. I'f I can find them (They're kind of old) when I get home I'll post some links to 55 gallon FULL sps tanks with nothing but T5 lighting. You'd be surprised....
