ok well i am in favor of the tek-5, as for bulb config how does this sound thes bulbs i found at www.reefgeek.com front bulb = 54W 6500K Daylight T5 HO Fluorescent, second = 54W 11000K Aquablue Plus T5 HO Fluorescent and maybe 3rd 4th = 54W Actinic/Blue Plus T5 HO Fluorescent. I saw that this is the recommended config...but will does anyone think this will be 2 blue with only 1 pure daylight, 1 60/40 and 2 actinics?

Danaos tank ran all Aquablue+blueplus. The Aquablue 60/40 is more like an 11000K bulb. Were you thinking of the GE or ATI daylights?

    Hey Bruce!

This has been a great thread, as it has answered a lot of my questions as well.

I do run only T5 HO (2x54) 1 12000K 1 actinic. I don't have any corals yet, just mushrooms. I like the color.

BTW I bought 2 of the TEK reflectors from Premium Aquatics and put them on my fixture to replace the original reflectors. DEFINITLY worth the effort. Probably got almost twice the light into the tank!

You definitely want to go with HO. NO bulbs won't be bright enough. I am glad to see that Covey's tank is so nice with just 4 bulbs, cause that is where I am planning on staying as well.

QUESTION::::why if you are running MH do you want to go to T5 HO's?

Is T5 HO's that much better than MH combos?

If you want to go heavy coral would T5's be the way to go or is MH still the best?
