Sump vs Canister Filter?

    Lol, I'm sorry but thats kinda funny. I don't know much about this whole sump thing, but even I know its a bad idea to fill it all the way up!

    get a sump and a fuge.. once you have it all set up youll never want to look at a canister filter again..

    the point of setting up the water level like this in case of an overflow is a precaution in case of a power outage. The pumps will shut off, but the overflow doesn't use electricity. So you leave space to account for that drainage back down to the sump.

    I use the Fluval 305, seems to work pretty good. Just have to keep ontop of cleaning it out every few days so it doesnt build nitrates. I didnt want to risk the potential chance of a sump overflowing into the basement lol. I might try a sump in the future.

    Not to rain on your parade but I've heard of plenty of leaking canister filters too! :eek:
