Hmm it seems to me that putting the pump in the middle is not allowing the refugium section to do its thing being after the return pump section. I am thinking this is going to take away from the rock filtering the water before going back to the tank. This means the "filtered" water is going back to the tank before it has a chance to be filtered. IMO the water going back to the tank should have already gone through the filter sock/skimmer/refugium.

You can remove the bio balls slowly. Put the skimmer in the first chamber, fuge in second and return in the last. This would keep down on replumbing and any modifications on the sump. You only need 2 to 3 times the DT going thru the sump anyway.

    salt4me,

As I mentioned the PS does not fit in the first chamber. Please see pictures. My only alternative is to create a refuge. in the middle chamber but on the far right side as far away from the skimmer which is sneaking in water from the first chamber then moving returning water pump to the far right chamber again? The bio balls are gone. The new pics show pieces or LR in place of the bio balls, so that the water drips down through them.
