I picked up a 40B that I am going to be building as my sump. Its for sure going to have to accommodate dual 1.5" returns, a reef octopus 150, and a Sicce 3.0 return. I have decided against a refugium but I want the possibility of running an algae scrubber and frag rack. I found this on google images but wanted to see if anyone else has done something similar where they incorporated a frag rack?

This is my version. Sorry the picture isn't better. I only have one drain. The water flows clockwise from back left where I could put a sock. Then right to the skimmer. Then forward through a bubble trap to chaeto. Then forward to rock where I can put frags. Then back on the left side to the pump return.

I found that I only barely left enough volume for power outage with where I had my locline so watch that. The sump is silent with a flow rate around 500 but was noisy at 600 cascading to the return. I probably should have lowered the baffles like you. I should have added another half inch because the tank lip makes it difficult to remove the skimmer and stand. I am lucky it works.

You would need a strip light vs. a point source on mine.

You may want a bubble trap and dual 1.5 overflows seem overkill for a 40 sump but that is fine.

    Can you tune the flow?

Overall I am happy but it has only been running for a month. I
