I haven't heard of this one before, so I'd like to get some more opinions.

    30 gallon reef
    Temp 77
    Salinity 1.026
    Alk 10
    Cal 450
    Mag 1450
    Ph 8.2
    Nitrate 5
    Phosphate 0

I use auto dosers to keep my parameters stable where there are, but here's the potential problem. I have two 10"+ clams in the tank that consume ridiculous amounts of chemical which ends up totaling out to replace over 90% of evaporated water. So far this doesn't seem to be causing any issues, but I'm essentially replacing the water in my system with chemicals which are being used by the clams which are increasing displacement and making the system volume smaller. I'm pretty sure my water changes are they only thing keeping my salinity stable at this point.

Hopefully this is a problem that someone else has seen before, or maybe you can at least help me think of any angles on this problem that I haven't thought of yet.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
A larger volume of water. Those clams are huge and growing, they are sucking up the calcium on such a small volume of water. What about a reactor rather than the doser?

what brand of calcium and alk do you dose?

It's always the simple idea that's the most realistic. I think that's the only real solution here.

I've considered it, but I already have way too much equipment on this reef as it is.

Brightwell Aquatics Part A and B.

I found a bit of a solution to this problem. I decided to crank my temperature up a bit to increase evaporation and tip the scales back to where I'm topping off more than dosing. Seems to have worked...

Is your concern that since you are adding about as much calcium as water, then the ratio of calcium to water is changing from day to day?(% of water decreasing)

I'm not really sure why I'm concerned.

I'm not sure why either. If your tests are ok and you trust them, don't think you have a problem.

You're probably right. I'll have to think about it a little longer.

Maybe you are overthinking it Mike.
