+1 here, you need to get more air behind the water. Drilling more holes will do it. Also I can tell from the pic, but how far below the top of the tank is the top of the cap on the durso?

The top of the cap is about 5/8-3/4". So the tip of the air inlet is about 1/2" or so. I could go higher but the telescoping durso is all the way down. Suggestions??

Also... I'm going to try something for proof of concept for more air

Thanks for the tip on more air. I tried it with a 90 elbow that i could slip into the T at allowed water and extra air to pass. So... 10 1/16" holes later and it's an even water level with no surges!!!

Now I just need to quite down the sump a bit and I'm good!!

We fixed this same problem by sticking a piece of airline tubing into the hole, with the other end sticking out the back of the canopy. Any time it manages to come out of the hole, it starts flushing again. Put it back in, it stops.

If the pump was bigger than the eheim then I'd say this was the issue. At 5' of head the eheim is pushing probably only 500 gph. Even a 3/4" bulkhead hole should be able to handle that and a 1" at least twice that.

Try raising the pipe a little more.
