    not letting them touch is a good idea IMO
    Here is an image from a very established DT in an LFS I visit

    you can see that the Acro's are winning the battle in locations that they would have both reached

    White string things are probably mesentarial filaments. They will sting/digest any coral that they touch. It's a sign of aggession toward other/competing coral.
