Baby I assume? If so the mother ate my favorite fish and it must be moved to a new aquarium.

Ok well, after a little poking and prodding, I found that he can pull the spines partially into the hole when irritated, but they don't fold or anything, he just condenses them and pulls them back in like half way... as if you were to pull pine needles through a toilet paper tube :) He can, however, pull the tentacles all the way in.

Also, when I touched him, one of the little spines broke off, so they are in fact very rigid and delicate. I think that he would break into a million pieces if I tried to remove him :/

Doesn't help the OP, but to answer K3racks question, it's a Mini Brittle Star, which are reef safe detrivores... if you have one, you probably have lots of them.

Haha... I have been looking. Will definitely post pics if I find someone with a macro lens or something that can pick this up! I'd love to know exactly what it is!

    Finally got pictures!!!

I finally got a decent camera and took some pictures of my mystery creature. Can anyone ID this from these pics?

Not sure if you can see in the pictures, but there is a hole to the left and slightly down that it poops from. It has grown to about 1.5" in diameter now. Also, it doesn't really have it's tentacles extended in the pictures, but when they are out they can stretch to about a half inch beyond the spines.

Sorry - I'm still learning how to use this camera, so bear with me on the picture quality ;)

    Thanks!
