Save your money & holdup on adding 'purple'. I wont call Purple a snake oil cause it is legit. its more of a marketting poly for new reefers more than anything. Purple is just basically a fancy marketted bottle of calcium. Adding it to your tank isnt like Coralline in a bottle. Let your tank cycle and when you get to the point you start adding corals, testing & montioring calcium then use it. Not to mention you probably couldve gotten double the size bottle of regular calcium for the same price.

incidentally i have a Corallife 6x UV filter in line, should I turn that off at the moment ?

 

If it was me I would leave it running. Opinions will vary here but the key thing everyone always strives for is tank stability. To me putting everything in place up and running from the beginning does just that. Introducing a new filter, fish, light, anything is a change and that can cause adjustments & change all the way at the bacteria level.
