Snail Shell Deteriorating.....

Some of my large nerite snails shells seem to be deteriorating, turning gray at the top and losing shell?? Any advice?

 

That is strange..what are your parameters like? I didn't realize that was chemically possible in high ph to be honest

I have only had that happen with freshwater snails...odd.

 

i remember hearing of a certain hitch-hiking invert that does what you described. can't remember what its called, but it lives on the shell, usually a lot of them, and they are very small. unfortunately thats all i know :/ sorry. good luck

 

do you have a picture? parasite sounds more likely, but through a shell you would think they would be visible.

 

Its only the LARGE nerites that seem to be having this issue, my fish and every single one of the snails, even those tiny ones are all alive and well, just the big nerites seem to be turning gray and losing shell at the top. I will take a picture later today and post.....

 

My parameters are perfect, nitrate slightly elevated but thats it really, I been dosing calcium but havent checked levels, so gonna have to look into that maybe
