I am new to salt water aquariums and i was wondering if there is a way to stop the salt from building up on the glass lid of my tank. I don't want to remove the glass lid since I have 4 flourecent bulbs mounted just above the glass. :)

    I don't think so.

Whereever you have saltwater evaporatorating you are going to have salt creep.

I get it all around the outputs of my hang-on-the-back filters and around my glass tops as well. I just wipe it off occasionally.

    It goes with the territory.

you will find salt creeping up everything. even the power cords to your Power Heads.
When I had a glass top I would just take them to the sink and give them a good clean once a week. Glass tops can really cut down on the light that passes through them and they always look dirty. I would try to mount your lights so that you can get ride of the glass. The benifits include better gas exchange, higher light penitration, better evaporation (for heat)

Think about it. I'm not saying Glass tops are wrong many people have glass tops

I agree, salt creep is just paart of the territory. Ther more eveaporation and the more creep you experience.

My glass top allows plenty of gas exchange and heat ventilation as there is plenty of surface agitation and ventilation (hood fans and an open back). I clean the glass every one or two weeks and there is no problem with lighjt penetration. JME

yep your gonna get salt creep

i still have the glass on mine but i got some fish that like to jump so ive always been hesitant on removing the top

i take my glas lid and run under hot water with my long handled alge scrubber and comes right off, for that hard filmy build up that gets on the glass a vinegar and water mix works on that pretty well

Oh no, not vinegar on the insides! I know you didn't mean that, but just had to be safe on this one! VINEGAR IS FOR USE ON THE GLASSTOP AND THE OUTSIDE OF THE TANK ONLY! Never put anything in your tank that you don't absolutely need to and this includes supplemntation.
