It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The starfish known as the Crown of Thornes (COT) mows down acropora. I went to Tonga and Samoa in the 90's and they were readily found, they just leave white skeleton behind.

Someone has designed a robot that moves over the reef injecting the starfish with bile salt, which kills the starfish but does not adversely affect the coral.

The robot is actually able to distinguish the difference between a COT and other starfish.

It's fascinating article for those interested.

It's a shame that the ecosystems have gotten so out of sync that humans have to intervene.

Human intervention tends not to end well. Rachel Carson anyone?

I'm not condoning this, just looking at how past experiences have gone. Such as DEET.

Well, at least the robots can't reproduce and overpopulate the reef. :D

Well maybe we're learning from mistakes. Humans caused this issue.
