I'm curious, since chlorine and chloramine seem to be the worst part about tap water, what about using a Brita pitcher which has carbon filters for small top offs?

Actually, that's not really the worst part. Nitrites and nitrates can also be found in tap water, not to mention a ton of other stuff. Here's the water report for my area (on page 7):

That report is scary for an aquarium. I know our new condo runs filtered city water (downtown Seattle) and I filter it again but the nitrates are still a concern for me.

    I am buying a RO/DI system now.

I went with this one for only $132 and free shipping. The quality looked a bit better than the $100 one all over eBay and still under $150.

Its a must in this hobby, and if anyone in here suggest using tap, they would probably tell you to drink the water in Mexico .Save yourself some headache get a Ro/di,you can get a decent one in Ebay for a liitle over $100.H20 science and Bulkreef is a good one. I run an 8stage diy, could be an overkill but my (Sps) loves it.
