He always kind of layed to one side. I just figuired it was the missing raptoral and walking legs so wasn't to worried about it.

He just lays on his back still? That's not natural behaviour because their bellies are their weak spot. They usually don't expose their vulnerable side, unless they are moving/building something or are inside the cave. In the wild, a belly up mantis is an eaten mantis.

Only guaranteed to arrive alive. :( Richard's a good guy. I'll shoot him an email and see what he says.

A lot of people have been having bad luck with mantis shipments lately. :-(

Maybe there's hope then because he is in the dug out he made under the pvc in his tank.

I've never had either of my 6 mantis behave "iffy" at anytime. They hit the water, went into their caves, and became curious and popped out. All at different speeds due to personalities/species. I've never received one in the mail, so I don't know what they act like upon arrival.

Well this morning he is still in the same spot but his positon has changed. I still can't see any movement but besides the slight change he still has color.

He's alive! He looked at the light when I shined it in there and then did a flip and scooted back deeper into his hole. I'm just a paranoid fool sometimes I guess.

No, you aren't being paranoid. That is not normal mantis behaviour.
