Is you pump too much for your overflow?

I would check all you overflow pipes mabey something is clogged in them and restricting the flow to the sump. if you dt is raising when you fill with water then there is a restriction somewhere from the overflow to the sump.

The water shouldn't be that low though, if you have a little evaporation, it will cause the pump to suck air and then run dry. See if you can restrict the pump flow by inserting a ball valve or using one. What happens when you add water to the section that is low?

How long was it running before this happened?

It looks to me that the water is restricted by all of that filter media in the drain area. Try taking some of that stuff out.

Something isn't adding up here. Is there somehow more to the system than we're aware of? If you add water to a system the water level HAS to rise. It's not just disappearing, unless you have a major leak.

Do you have a major leak? :)

He said that when he added water to the system, it showed in the DT, not the sump. By all my reasoning, it should show in the return area. That's why I think the water is being impeded by all that filter cr*p in the drain area. If the water can flow more freely, it may level itself out.

Also, you can get rid of all of those bio balls, their not doing anything.

If the display tank is not over full that it is going to run over i would say add more water to the sump to bring it back to the old water mark, if the display is showing sines of running over then there is something stuck in the drain pipe from the tank to the sump, like a snail or something. and if it were me i would reduce the amount of filter media looks like it could be a nitrate problem waiting to happen.
