I may talk slow, but I'm not stupid! ;-)

But if you pull the AC plug slightly out, and touch the terminals of the multimeter to them, why would you put on on DC?
The pump after the transformer is DC, but the AC plug?
If you say it will work, I'll try it, tomorrow as I'm at work atm.

So, use the round plug after the transformer for the wattage?

If you can get the leads in there. Has to be draw on it to get a true reading.

Honestly, if you don't know what you are doing, I would not attempt to do this. Pulling plugs out partially can be very dangerous. I would either only use a clamp-on meter, or have an electrician or someone who knows and is comfortable with measuring power do it.

And/or, I could just assume that the published factory specs are fairly accurate. It is product/performace data, on their product, published for the public.

I'm not going to mess with it.

Good call. I agree that the max watts rated by the manufacturer should be correct. And I certainly hope so, as that was one of the main reasons for getting one. If accurate, I estimate it will save me $60/year on electricity.

Was the 5500 checked with O head height? The more head, the less flow.
The less flow, the less watts.
