Ah...I was wondering. The control boxes seem practically identical.

Doesn't 5500 refer to 5500 lph? this one is 12,000!

this one has 1.5inch in and outs!

I think they are all made by Jaebo- not sure though.

the plastic does not seem cheap to me.

When I hooked it up and turned it on, I thought it was not working, until my rerun hose to my sump started flowing again! Silent!

I have it running thru my existing 1 inch return atm, and I want to go with 1.5in's, which I"m sure will increase the flow some also.

    Thanks Mindy!

Maybe the impellar is slightly different making the flow slightly different? It looks like the same pump though. You can get the pump I now have online for about $148 shipped. Those Diablo's seem overpriced, esp. if it is the exact same pump.

I grew up mainly in North Dallas btw. I'm a long way fromn there now, but I'm still a Texan!

That's really great to hear you're liking the pump already. I definitely plan on using one when I crank the 100 gal back up.

I did some more snooping, and according to an article I read:

The Royal Exclusiv Red Dragon is made in Germany, and the current "revision" has some nice features, along with Ti screws, rotor and stator. It also has a "closed" impeller, which is more efficient. The control chip was moved from the motor housing to the control box to allow usage with the Apex controller.

The RLSS Wavelines, are still nice, high-quality, but lack the Ti parts, made in China. This is their semi-bargain model.

Speedline, Jebao, and Diablo are apparently identical to the 1st generation RLSS pumps, but Chinese made.

Boyu is also Chinese, but according to the article, at this time the company doesn't have a UL certification, so altho they may be a bargain, the question of safety may come into play here. We actually have a lighting fixture made by that Chinese company that didn't have a UL cert (can't recall their name), and IIRC, there had been some fire issues with them, so there it sits, unused.

On that new Jabeo 1200 I now have,
I realize I'm actually running the output thru a 7/8 fitting/hole, which feeds my 1" Spaflex hose.
as I said the input and outputs are 1.5".
I pretty confident that when I go with the 1.5 return lines, it will increase to flow some more even.

Did I mention how silent this thing is on full power?- It's basically silent!
