    Means any good brand dry sand would need a wash?

    From what I understand, if you buy good quality sand that is meant for an aquarium or even reef setup it would still be a good idea to rinse it out. If you don't it might not necessarily be some disaster but all the dust and small particulates that are in with the sand would have to be filtered out of the water, which might take some time depending on your physical filtration setup.
