I have a Danner Model 7 submersible pump in my sump that provides the circulation for my tank. I noticed the pump is producing a lot of random rattling noise as it operates. I disassembled and cleaned all the parts, which weren't all that dirty. I didn't see any buildup of calcium or organic material. What could be causing this pump to rattle?

place the pump on top of a pad of some type that is safe for water.

I think it's internal. My guess is that the part of the cover holding the impeller bushing is worn out.

Rattling does sound like it could be related to the impeller. Unfortunately, I just had a return pump that I needed to replace because of an impeller issue but I didn't have the time to devote (was going on vacation) to getting a replacement impeller - you can try that as an option.
