You only need 1 piece of live rock, it's just a matter of how long you want it to take for the coraline algae to grow and spread. The beneficial bacteria itself spreads quite fast with some food to cycle the tank anyways. I got around 250 pounds of dry fiji rock from someone on craigslist for $200. If all live rock from a lfs, that would have been $2,000 plus tax . I then bought a few live rocks and places them around the dry.

I took a look at the rock on the site. Is the rocks pictured live rock or what?

Also how much rock do you recommend for one of the 29g biocubes.

In my 28 Nano I have 30 lbs of dry rock and about 15-20 lbs of live rock. I think between 30-50 lbs is a good amount.

    Where do you live?

    I'd start with Craigslist

Often times people moving, getting out of it, etc.
