How many people that have MH run without a chiller? If you run without a chiller what do your temps run?

The reason i ask is because I just picked up a 3rd thermometer cause i thought the others where wrong when they said 83.6 with my MH off like a hour after and over 85 with them on. My fixture sets like 12-13" off the waters surface. I have been having issues with my monti cap bleaching and couldnt figure out why but im hoping i figured it out.

I run one 250w bulb in a Lumenmax 2 pendant suspended about 10" or so over my 70g (18" deep) tank. My temps have gotten up to 84 in the Summers, but after putting my AC unit in, it stayed around 82. I haven't run a chiller, don't plan too either.

I use a Lumenbright Mini-wide reflector. It is designed to be raised approx. 16" above the tank. So, no effect on temp at that height.

Fans pointed at the water surface should be sufficient though, unless your in AZ and don't have AC or something, I don't think you should need a chiller....

Thank you for moving this i wasnt quite sure where to put it.

I will try the fan but would like to keep it at a steady temp atleast under 82.

I run a 250w mh over my trimless Solana and can keep temps comfortably between 78 and 79 using an Azoo 4 fan unit blowing across the water surface. Ambient temp has been around 75-76 over the summer.

I run a Current 72" MH that is 12" from the top of the tannk (btw FO tank atm). the tank's temperature will vary throughout the day. In the morning my tank starts off at 76-78 degrees. By the evening it will get around to 81.5. Since the room I have is small (10x10) I do leave the window a tad open to get some fresh air in or else the room would be a lot warmer than what it is and possinbly the tank would/could be warmer as well.

Active cooling is extremely important to maintain temperatures without a chiller.

I am running 1000W of halide over my tank, plus another 300W of lights as well.... no chiller

They are all contained in a hood with fans actively pushing/pulling air through it. The moving air is enough to cool the halides enough that they do not warm the tank too much. The air conditioning system in the house then cools the air. My A/C in the house keeps the house at a comfy 76F in the summer and 65F in the winter.

My controller has my heater coming on at 77.9 and off at 79.3.
My 400w is about 15" off the surface and my 250w is 6" off the surface. My highest temp recently (past couple of months) was 80.3 and I do not run any type of chiller or fan.
You may want to consider having a fan blowing air under the light and across the top of the water.

Also canopies and large fixtures usually make tanks run hotter than just pendants Or reflectors alone.
