To users claiming this pvc overflow aren't reliable, an airlift pump is needed to continuously remove the air pockets in the PVC. Without that, you will only be guessing as to how much bubbles are in your overflow. Several users in the freshwater and saltwater hobby use this pvc overflow without any isues. A properly done PVC overflow is dependent on your own construction.

Needing an airlifter pump is inherently unreliable, since there's designs that work without one. The airlifter designs (PVC and wier) have just one more part that can fail, and possibly needs a battery backup.

Simplicity is king, which is why U Tube overflows are so popular, and are so reliable.

If the airlifter pump it's need it, will it have to be on all the time pumping water/air?

So I will have to install the valve on the elbow n run a line to the airlifter then another line coming out from the airlifter to inside the tank right?

Yeah, either in the tank or down to the sump. I dunno how people usually run the outlet of the aqualifter.

I have one of these on my my tank for a couple months now. Instead of the check valve i connected a piece of airline and run that to the venturi of one of my power heads. this way any air that gets in is immediately pulled out by the ph.
