How long should I let my new fittings cure before I start using them. I used oakley brand cement and I believe it had a cure time of 2 hours. I would say its be about 16 hours. Should I throw some new carbon in just in case it leached anything?

you let it sit for 16 hours? that's more than enough.

carbon is not a bad idea but you don't have to worry about the cement. It is for the use on sinks for human drinking water. I won't do any bad.

Well I got the water flowing. I just added a check and ball valve. My flooding worries are over. I prolonged this process because I thought it would be a mess but it wasn't too bad.

Actually, I don't think PVC is in code for potable water, at least not in my county. Water can cause micro scrapes in the PVC, allowing bacteria and algae to grow. It's only copper and pex in my area.

16 hours is 15 hours longer then I wait :) I'm inpatient. I've never any negative effects doing so, and I've done it more then a couple times. I throw in a poly filter or some carbon every time, just in case.
