I can't help but ask, why are you buying anything alive from petco?? you can go to petco for supplies, but I cannot possibly imagine why you would choose petco over your LFS any day when you're bringing something home. Petco employees are just not as knowledgeable as people who dedicate their entire job to our hobby. Plus Petco animals don't seem as healthy as the ones at the fish store, the fish store generally takes better care of them than petco and you'll have a better chance of your new creature actually surviving.
