    I think you should buy him. LLD is very curable give the right food and water parameters, which it seems you have. If you feed him lots of marine algae and vitamin enriched food, he should recover, especially since it's been a month and he's eating very well.

    Nice price for a purple tang, My Achilles had HLLE, Fixed it with feeding lots of greens and using Vitamin C Suppliments made for marine tanks... Worked like a charm.

    The poor little guy is dying and you are saving it is awesome! I would love to see pics of the little guy and keep everybody updated. Doing a good deed and all the fish store is waiting to is chunk it when it dies. Glad to see that you are giving it a chance at survival and at least trying! Keep us posted!

    As a rule I only buy fish that look 100% healthy. I know it's a savings but if it doesn't work out your back to square one and your out $50. IMO

    If it's eating & seems fine, $50.00 IS cheap! I just priced one last Sunday at my LFS and it was $139.99. Good luck! Oh, pics please.. :)

    I forget that Purple Tangs are cheaper in Florida. I can get a nice one for $75-$90.
