A good CuC from reefcleaners.org! :) You run GAC for one. I have used the fluval GAC before in my HOB filter. You can also try to manually remove as much as possible. You can also go "lights out" for 3 or 4 days and try to black the tank out by placing something around it.

I do have a good CUC in my tank, and I've taken out a lot of sand already, it just doesn't go away. Would the black out period effect my fish? I have 3 damsels and a long nose hawk.

Fish don't need light to survive. They would be just fine and the black out would be the cheapest method to try.

I'll try it tonight. Does anyone know exactly what form of algae this is?

It wouldn't hurt to put a blanket or something over the tank too so no sunlight gets in there either

I have the exact same thing occuring in my aquarium, I dont use tap water but another told me overfeeding is another source of the algae. Hope this helps...

It's not the overfeeding, it is the excess of nutrients you add by putting excess food in, without enough fish, bacterial load, cleaning members to take care of. I'm not positive, but I think cyano has something to do with bacterial imbalance or something along those lines.

I have the same thing in my tank. Right now I am performing the DR Tim removal process. Algae_Slime It is making my rocks and tank look rather crappy. Does anyone have any other suggestions??

I just kept my lights off for about 3 days and most of the purple is gone.
