So I have a skimmer from one of 3reef's sponsors, the pump on the skimmer has always needed to be put together just so or it will not work. Basically I believe the impeller shaft is too long. (by a millimeter or two) I have always been able to get it back together and working fairly easily, but I can not get this thing to work this time and truthfully I am tired of the headache every month. Can the ceramic shaft be trimmed?

Have you tried the company's customer service? Might be worth a shot to ask them a question.

I personally do not know about trimming a ceramic shaft, but it seems very touchy and brittle.

Ceramic can be cut with a wet saw but I'd call customer service first.

Why would you think the shaft needs to be cut??It is quite normal for there to be some play in the impeller.(depending on the pump)
Have you tried using some silicone oil to lubricate it??I agree with the above.Call customer service.
