My wall shaped hammer (not the branching) has been receeding in the center more and more. I fear that the tissue is slowly decaying. Is there a way to prop and save the two ends?

I'll try to get pics up if needed.

Hmm, think I should cut it now? It started out as a 1/4" piece, and now its about an 1" gap in the middle where there is no visable tissue.

That's a decision that only you can make :) What caused that section of the coral to die? Any brown jelly or anything?

No brown jelly...but a smallish piece 1/8" or so of the purple looking encrusting skeleton over the calcium carbonate skeleton got broken during transfer from LFS to home. It has slowly gotten worse since it was added and I fear it will kill the whole coral :(

The sexy shrimp might be stressing it, but its too large to QT and keeks1127 tank has shrimp that will do the same thing....and NO room :p

BTW, it looks like you broke that cat's neck :/

You can see the purpleish coating over the top of the skeleton. This has been recessing slowly :/

By purpleish coating, do you mean the coralline algae that has covered the coral's skeleton? If so, then I wouldn't worry about it. Has the flesh receded any more since the initial "accident?"
