    Sounds like you will have an easy thing of adjusting kalk since there probably isn't fresh powder in the bottom. All you should have to do is reduce the amount per gallon you are adding. I haven't used kalk yet and I have a question. What is the layer on top that makes it hard to see through?

    When CO2 hits the water it interacts with the Kalk and creates insoluble calcium substance, don't remember what exactly it is, and it basically becomes a crust. If it isn't distrubed then it kinda creates a barrier to keep co2 away from the kalk. If you continually stir kalk it will rapidly decrease in saturation while it will last a long time unstirred.
