    Hello All,

I could use some suggestions. I have just finished curing 130 lbs of live, Fiji rock. It has taken 4 weeks. I now monitor zero ammonia and zero Nitrite. The rock has been curing in a 32 gallon, clean plastic can and the water is crystal clear. I am about to place the rock into my 85 gallon tank and the thought occured that perhaps the water in the can should also be transferred to the tank. It would seem that this cycled water would be ideal to jump start the tank and then add additional water to top off. Any suggestions, use, toss?

Forgot to mention the water is RO and DI treated. I bought a 6 stage system for $85 and am very happy with it.

Thanks for your help. I will post some pics once the rock is in and water added.

there is no such thing as "cycled water" I would throw the water out because it has most likely been depleted of some of the trace elements that your tank depends on

I'd use the water if all the parameters are good as you said . Love that woody avatar you have there just adjust the salinity

There would be no harm in using it.
AS Tangster said, if the parameters are all good

O.K I have to ask what would be wrong with the water if he used it ? if all the parameters are good ?? I'd take it any time over all new water and since he will be adding more new to finish up why not use it ? Sorry just have to ask :) Not wanting to argue I just want to try and learn something . Now I did not mention I'd not use any of the sludge on the very bottom if there where any But I doubt many would

Jason beat me to the button :)

Just my opinion. He didn't say anything about nitrates. If you were adding it to a tank from an established tank, and adding coral then I would say yes. But since it is going to just have lr just use new water. Old water will be depleted of O2 and trace elements. Since the bacteria that uses ammonia and nitrites for energy are also areobic, that means they use oxygen, there will be less O2 and more CO2. JMO.

Well guys, I guess I brought up an interesting question, half say yes, half throw it out. I of course would just use the clean water on top and no sludge, which there is little of. I have also been aerating the water along with a 350 gph circulation pump through a filter. I will test the Nitrate and get back.

The Woodie is a '38 Ford street rod I built, mucho fun to drive. When people visit us and fly into our small SB airport we always pick them up in the Woodie.

The circ pump along with adding an airstone in the water for a short time will take care of what 02 depletion has occured. Always good to use the circ pump and/or airstone in the container while curing LR. This is also the first time I've heard that LR curing uses up the potassium, iodine, magnesium, calcium, and strontium in the water. I thought it just cycled out ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates.
