So as I am going into a new build, I was wondering about what measures I should take in order to prevent any problems such as disease/illness, injury to me or tank, etc. From reading many posts throughout the forum this is what I know..

-I should dip corals/fish in freshwater before putting into DT. (How long should I dip for?)

-I will repeatedly drip acclimate in a 5g bucket until water from LFS is almost completely replaced.

-What about QT? I will use my current 29g as my QT for my 55g DT. How long should I quarantine for? I was thinking maybe 2 weeks for fish? What about corals, nems, etc. ?

-How do I transport larger fish from my QT to my DT? (my coral beauty is my only fish right now, at 4". I want one larger fish, maybe 6-7")

-I'm going to get a pair of long gloves for reaching into the tank.

Am I missing anything I should know? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.:)

The life cycle of many fish diseases and parasites is 4 to 6 weeks. A shorter QT may not be effective.
I also QT all my corals, although for a much shorter time so I can do dips and treatments with things like Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure, Interceptor, Flat Worm Exit or other medications depending on what I observe as far as pests.

I use Lee's large specimen containers to move fish back and forth like the pet stores use to capture and bag fish.

Many species of corals should be saltwater dipped with medications as mentioned above. Many of them cannot be freshwater dipped. You need to look up the proper dipping procedure for each species.

Great advice (or a Tom Dip and Pour)

    Thanks, guys. What's a "Tom Dip & Pour" ?

Can I get these medications at my LFS?

Sounds like about a one-month-quarantine should be done for fish. Maybe a week or two for corals along with a saltwater dip, using treatments?

Most yes. Interceptor will have to come from a Vet though since it requires a perscription legally. It is a common medication for dogs and even horses and comes in different strengths.

AzDesertRat answered your other questions. A Dip and Pour is just a different brand. Most stores sell one or the other (but not both) so I wanted you to know this brand as well. tom dip and pour - Google Search

How does Interceptor help an aquarium? -As in diseases, in the same way it helps a dog from heart-worm?

Oh OK thanks. I use one of those now. Do they just make them in a larger size for bigger fish? I see they do.

It kills red bugs on SPS and AEFW (Acro Eating Flat Worms) on Acros.

1.025 is the desired SG for reefs, right? Should I use a higher/lower SG when dipping? Or is this exact SG(0.001) dependent on the brand of treatment I use?
