well i know the post is old.. but a question.. why NOT tempered glass ?
tempered glass has a nice features.. if you (sob...) break the tank by accident.. it wont make flass frames but just small crystal cubes that wont hurt anyone..

i'm going to make a 350g tank and will use 19mm tempered extraclear glass.. just to have less trouble in the future..

but.. then i read Marlin65 told not to use tempered glass.. why ?

Other than the fact that it cannot be drilled I can't come up with a valid reason. When you see tempered glass that has holes in it they were molded in to it or at least thats what I have read. So you use tempered glass everywhere except the panel that needs to be drilled.

i will use the tempered only on the display glass as i will make the holes on the bottom for the pipes as the long glasses will be in 2 rooms and they need to be nice to see :D and the 2 small arent usable for it..
i will temper the 2 big for safety.. the other will be float 8alco for cost...
