    Yeah they're good but they can cause alot of grief.

    hermits eat deterious (spelling) and poop. but there are lots of other things that eat the same. Like Cerith and Nassarius Snails, brittle stars, black knoby, Pink, tiger tail Cucumers, White Sand sifter stars.

    Detritus and poop, what about they're mainstay of algae?

    Ya they eat that too.  I just assumed by this

    Like Jason said they're are many alternatives. There are many opinions going out about hermit crabs and whether they cause more problems than they're worth.

    i have 50 nass. snails and a brittle star. What are the best cucumbers to get.

    but aren't cucumbers a risk to have also because if they die they release poison.

    I get a batch of 25 or so very small blue leg hermits. They are very good algeavores when juveniles. As they mature and change shells two times, I remove them from the tank and trade them in on a new bunch. This avoids their carnivorous adult tendancies.
