how thick is that ply wood? it would have to be pretty thick to hold that much water. how long did it take you to make it? its a fine looking tank!

    Hi,
One thing most people dont undersatnd is plywood is one of the strongest woods there is. Before building i asked around and most said that 3/4 inch thick was more than enough. I actually made it much stronger. I used two pieces laminated together. One 3/4 inch and one 1/2 inch.
Took about 3 months to make but i was only doing it for something to do at the time and just did some work on it now and then. I suppose if was to make another it would take about 40 hours at a guess.
    Cheers,
    Viking.

    hello,
so the plywood was over an inch thick? how thick would glass be for the same sized tank? and what are you going to do when youve had the tank for twenty years?

I suppose glass for a tank this size would be 1/2 inch maybe more on the bottom.
20 years? hell i'll probably be dead ;D

so is it cheaper to make the tank out of glass or plywood. that includes stand and sump.

Plywood would be cheaper for a tank this size. Smaller, glass would be cheaper.
