i have a long tentacle plate coral that i keep on my sandbed. I would like to move it a few inches higher onto a large rock in my tank. I read somewhere that they need to be on substrate or the underside will be damaged by being on rocks. does anyone know of this to be true or false? My plate coral gets so big during the day that it takes up to much space on the sand. any advice or opinions are apprectiated
    thanks!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
IME the Heliofungia is better off left on the sandbed. The delicate tissues on the bottom sometimes become irritated on the rockwork It maybe because it gets scratched on the rockwork or because the underside is more exposed to the normal funa of a system ie: pods and worms.

Many people would love to say their fungia is getting too large for the sandbed and it is a beautful piece JP. :)

Thanks, you've got a pretty good point, Corrailine. I guess I could have worse problems lol. Thanks for the input as well as the compliment. I appreciate your help.

Definitely keep it on the sand. It will get damaged on the rocks and most likely die.

They are perfectly capable of "walking" around the sandbed. They can't do that in your rock work.

    It is definitely true.

Heck, they cut themselves on my CC substrate so I quit keeping them...

In the wild, they live on the sand. They walk around by expaning and contracting, as you've probably seen. They cut themselves if they're on the rockwork.
