If PVC is avail. I think it will be best if you get 2"-3" and make "rings" out of it to whatever depth you want your sand to be. you can also use smaller or larger PVC to fill in the gaps so that the rock does no hit the glass in case you get so sand sifters.

I will say that I wouldn't put any sand sifter if I do this.

Wh can't you just put the rocks on the bare glass and then put the sand?

Technically Dow is the largest and only manufacturer of "styrofoam."
Which is also a brand name for polystyrene foam. ;)

Back on topic though, don't use polystyrene foam. Use of the rock is questionable.

I think I would just put a piece of acrylic under the rock, if I were going to use it. That's probably the easiest solution.

    +1... Exactly.

Personally, I would use it as a centerpiece for a flower garden rather than in an aquarium, especially if you don't even know what it's made of. Just because it came from the ocean doesn't necessarily make it safe. It can't pollute the deep blue sea like an enclosed tank.

I know what you mean, that's why I started mine with all dry rock. Actually had enough coralline on the shells of my snails and hermits that my rocks are almost covered in just 2 weeks! :D
