How fast do they grow? How long until it covers the rock (estimate)? This assumes water changes (keeps calcium up) and feeding cyclopeeze to them. Just looking for an idea... I'm a little impatient lol

Wellsi's are the ones about the size of a quarter and the Merletti are the ones about the size of a finger nail right?

I think that's right. In about 2 years I've had a 4 head Merletti go to about 30some heads. And a 1 head Wellsi go to about 12 heads. As a reference.

My Wellsi is very mad at me right now... Not sure why... Oh well, that's for a different thread :)

For the most part, yes, Wellsi's are larger. They also grow slower, and have much more color variation and vibrance. I have 3 different variations of Blasto Wellsi right now, from Austrailia and Indonesia, and they range in size from a dime/head to half dollar/head. I do not have any Merletti's as my LFS does not get them often, and I cannot find small frags for a reasonable price, only colonies. But from what I have read, once you find the happy place for Merletti's, they grow like mad.

alright. I'll try to drill into some LR and cement the frag disc into it so it'll have a nice steady home. Hopefully I can get it to be happy enough to spread

Just to add to this thread, while I can't speak about Merletti I do have a Wellsi colony. I think mine have grown relatively quickly.

    Started with this (6 polyps):

Went to this in about 8 months (~14 polyps):

Is there anyone that doesn't think I have a Merletti? I'm new to reefing and corals.

actually, they look more like my wellsi; like evolved's too. but might just be blurry pic...

care for both is similar and they both grow reasonably fast for an LPS.

I know it hasn't been in the LFS long, but already has 2 new buds. I'll try to get some clearer shots with my T2i. If it helps, the polyps are dime sized or smaller
