Another round of testing. Nitrates keep climbing. It is becoming a problem. I picked up something to run carbon...An Aquaclear unit rated upto 60g. Not enough on it's own but good adjunct therapy. I am going to look for nitrate sponges to run in it to lower the NO3. No time to do the fuge before surgery, go a quick fix it is.

Starting a Ca/bicarb drip to bring up those numbers a bit. Increased the flow through the denitrator. Planning a 30% water change for Thursday. Will prep the water tomorrow afternoon.

Changed out filter socks. Cleaned overflow sponge.

Still feeding only three times weekly except for a daily algae strip. This includes phytoplankton (Oyster Feast). My sea apple looks very happy right now.

Livestock looking good. Hippo developed some spots on her body. Looks like a little Ich, but I am not worried. She's healthy and the params are not bad enough to warrant any therapy other than garlic soaked food. The eight line is looking great. Very active. This one will live for sure. No after effects from the anemone in the PH thang.

Treating tank with a dose of Phosphat-E.

    Temp: 76
    SG: 1.026
    NO3: 50 (H)
    dKH: 11.2 (L)
    Ca: 450 (L)
    Mg: 1620
    PO4: 0.25 (H)

    Rock on and Peace.......John.

Have you checked the other params? I would check ammonia and nitrites just to be sure. I know when I lost my anemone both spiked drastically. The toxins can and will kill the bacteria responsible for the cycle. Not saying that's whats going on, but I would just check to make sure with the rising nitrates.

Ohhhhh, IS THAT WHY???!!! Man I am dense. I didn't even consider it. I JUST bought an Aqua-Tech 30/60 to run the carbon. I was going to put it in the sump, but there is no room off the back, so I will just run it of the back of the tank.

And thanks for the compliment. I have been really limited by that array. What magic Jebo and Odyssea can create huh???!!!! They are the biggest POS fixtures in the world. The Jebo only half runs and the connections on the Odyssea are in need of repair. Oh, and the PC bulbs are 9 months old. And a cheap brand at that. But my corals are used to it. I transferred my brain to the small tank with the T5s and it almost died. It's happy again under PCs. Could you imagine putting them all under a few 250W HQI MHs right now? They would jump out of the tank.

I have. My outdated (2004) API tests read 0 on both. I have a Salifert Ammonia test coming from California in a few days and the Salifert Nitrite/pH from DFS. I will do a daily dose of Prime just in case. All corals seem OK. For now. I need a nitrate sponge also. My water change got put off a day because of all the pre-op stuff took a lot longer than I planned.

The nitrate increase also coincided with my feeding every other day with Oyster Feast. I may be overfeeding.

whoops, missed the second sentence where you stated you got the carbon/aqua tech, lol sorry... been a busy week. What about the sea apple? ;D Ya Jebo is one of the worst IMO, Odyssea has it's problem's but there are far worse, try a Jalli fixture, you would be wishing back those other 2 so fast! lol.

Sea Apple is doing fine. It is open tonight sweeping for food. It has been open a lot more lately. And has not moved in months. Same spot. Too bad it's mouth is not facing the front of the tank. For about 2 months, it was. But then it moved. But, a stationary sea apple is a happy sea apple. I was counting my blessings with the anemone death. That could have set of the apple big time. And it would have been alllllllll over.

I feed all the corals Oyster Feast (1-200 microns). Once a week I target feed it and a few others just for the heck of it. But I am more concerned with the Apple's health and well being.

Got the Aqua-Tech up and running. The brace in the middle of the tank and the overflows on either end prevented a DT installation. So I went for the front of the sump. Fit perfectly. So now I have carbon. Space age technology. Seems like I am continually adding stuff. Really cool.

I was going to upload pics.....but photobucket is running maintenance.
