My unit is only 5 months old and run only when needed. it is a 200gpd unit so the 20 gals or so I make up hasn't put a dent in the membranes yet my tds reading are perfect.

i use DI water and that would cost a lot for all those cartriges to use. I can make about 58 gal. per cartrige.

I understand the worry for the expense, But at this point you have 3 options in my opinion.
Lose the tops and get less heat but deal with evap problem.
    Get a chiller.
Ignore it and hope everything adjusts to heat.
Anyone of those will cost you money, you just need to decide what is the way you want to go and welcome to a great but expensive hobby.

I use a TDS meter (Total dissolved Solids) to test my RO/DI and I have found no real drop off in Quality of water. The drop off occurs in the amount of output. I change the sediment and carbon every two months the Resin every 8 months and I have yet to replace the DI filter so over 16 months. The two filters I change often are $15.00 total for both.

I have two of the coralife fixtures on a 75. My temp was going way up there. I added a refugium and it took care of it. That open volume of water under the tank causes the temp to go way down. I had to put a heater back in my tank.
