Paranoid? I hope so. Why won't these hermits, well, come out of their shell?

I have a few different hermit species and the scarlet reefs seem to be the least mobile. I had one I put in my tank that took over night to start moving. I think its just species related.

During the moulting process the hermit crabs in my tanks stay in one spot and rarely poke out of the shell. Plus, some hermit crabs are a lot less athletic than others. I agree, nothing to worry about.

I'd give em some time. Some days my hermits won't move all day long. I'll come back later and they're all gone (who knows where they have their secret meetings to discuss taking over my home...) then an hour after that all of them are skittering around happy as can be

    Well, sounds like they're lazy.

I just got home from class today, and low and behold, they haven't moved an inch.

My scarlet's are lazy too. Compared to my blue legs they hardly ever move. I think its a scarlet thing. Get some blue legs if you can, they never stop moving.

i have an assortment of various types of hermit crabs (red, blue, yellow), and they all are lazy!

i have some that wont move all day and then all of a sudden they go nuts trying to source food. other times they're just kinda lingering on a rock. some of them even retract into the shell so far i think its an empty shell. i learned to stop caring when theres empty shells in the sand because half the time id go to pull it out it'd have something still in it.

the hermits occasionally will gang up and kill a snail for its shell too.

there is probably 'food' in the sand underneath them and they dont HAVE to move to eat right not. If you are still so worried take a pellet and draw them over to it.
