Hi, Renee. I always love seeing pics of your fish.

I agree, the Green Hawaiian has great colors. Pterois mombasae (Devil Lionfish) is cute too. I love the bright red.

I like the little Fu Manchu. Maybe when my daughter gets old enough to understand how bad they can hurt her I will consider getting another lionfish. Had a very personable dwarf lionfish about 10 years ago. Reminded me of keeping an Oscar the way it would greet me when I entered the room. Always hungry, ate almost anything. Loved shrimp.

Parapterois heterura, I am In LOVE. Your picture is absolutely amazing. Is that a smaller species?

And the worst possible choice! They are a cold water species and rarely live very long in captivity. They usually just up and die looking perfectly well the day before or melt before your eyes with a bacterial looking infection. The next group I see, I'll be send them in for a necropsy to see if that will tell us anything.

One nice thing about the "fu" is that it's a bottom/rock dwelling species, so even when it comes over to beg, it won't be near the top of the tank. The only issue with them is that they can sometimes be "difficult" to wean onto non-living fare. IIRC, ours took 3 months, but we weren't quite as good at weaning fish back then...

A 40B will be a tad tight for a full-grown medium lionfish. Also, FWIW, P. antennata has the largest mouth of all the medium lions if that makes a difference.
