I really like this idea. Currently I have a diy 4 bulb t5ho and am looking into LED. This may be something I put together.

I like the combination. I miss my halides, but not the heat.

    I hung my canopy.

now you really got me thinking of doing this. the top of your canopy is open for cooling and you has the ballasts on top there?

    Thanks!

Yep. I mounted the ballasts on the back of the canopy. You can also run the cords down and mount them on the back of the stand too. I chose not to as it's easier to dismount the canopy for light repairs if the ballasts are attached to the canopy.

The tank stays so much cooler with the open top. I feel almost no heat from the tank light anymore. My halides made the room feel like the sun, which was even furthered by much higher evaporation, creating humidity.

I pulled the trigger on the T5 retrofit kit. got the 4x48" bulb kit with 2 ballasts. Gonna start this Sunday hopefully to frame up that hanging canopy following your idea.
